Honor and Huawei have committed to launching 5G handsets in 2019. Huawei boss Richard Yu told Digital Trends that the company is "working on foldable phones. Foldable 5G phones".
Huawei uses its own hardware platform inside its flagship devices and has announced details of its modem, called Balong 5000, with a 6.5Gbps (max speed).
It will work alongside the Kirin 980 platform that made its debut inside the Mate 20 Pro.
LG 5G phones
We know the next flagship from LG will be the LG G8, but it also seems we're going to get a V50 ThinQ announced soon, too. Thiswill be LG's first 5G handset. LG has already dripped out some details about the new phone - we knew it would have a 4000mAh battery and a liquid-cooling chamber to keep everything nice and chilled.
Moto 5G phones
Late in 2018, Motorola announced its Moto Z3 will be getting a 5G Moto Mod in the US as a Verizon exclusive. There's no word on other handsets as
OnePlus 5G Phone
OnePlus says it will release a 5G handset in the coming months. This will probably be a version of the OnePlus 7, which we're expecting in the first quarter of the year but not at Mobile World Congress - read more about the OnePlus 5G phone in our feature.
However, OnePlus will be bringing a prototype of its 5G handset to MWC. In a pre-show announcement it said "attendees will... be able to experience the capabilities of 5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype".
Samsung 5G phone
We've known for a little while that there will be at least two 5G Samsung phones in early 2019. Samsung will certainly be releasing a 5G handset on both Verizon and AT&T in the US in 2019. The other handset is believed to be the foldable Galaxy F or Galaxy Flex.
The more standard Samsung 5G phone may be a version of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 - possibly the handset currently known as the S10 X. We'll find out more at the S10's 20 February reveal.
Like Huawei, Samsung uses its own chipset and modem for at least some S Series devices. As before, it's likely that Qualcomm's 5G hardware will be inside US devices and it will use Samsung Exynos hardware for the rest of the world. Its modem is called the Exynos Modem 5100.
